An Oregon man died Friday night in a crash on Highway 3 in Trinity County, California Highway Patrol officers said.

Officers said Justin Seaman, 20, of Eagle Point, was driving on Highway 3 south of Guy Covington Drive around 8 p.m. when his Ford pickup went around a curve too fast and hit a tree.

Seaman died at the scene, while his four passengers all were airlifted to the hospital with moderate to major injuries, officers said.

Officers said at least three of the occupants were trapped in the truck at one point.

Part of the truck’s cab was in pieces, the CHP said.

Officers said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.

Highway 3 was closed until around 2 a.m. as officers investigated.
