Eileen Park, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler’s communications director, announced Monday that she’s leaving the office at the end of July and moving to Canada.

Park, 34, was hired in October 2018 after three years working for Portland’s CBS affiliate KOIN-TV (6) as an anchor and reporter. She had previously worked as a television reporter in New York, North Carolina, Washington and Wisconsin.

Park said she is moving to Vancouver, British Columbia for personal and professional reasons. Tim Becker, public information officer for the mayor’s office, will serve as interim communications director until her permanent replacement is hired, Park said.

In a statement, Park thanked Wheeler and members of the mayor’s office for their leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and public outcry from the killing of George Floyd and said it was an honor being part of the administration.

“I will continue to champion and support our team and city from Vancouver, B.C.,” Park said. “I leave knowing Portland continues to be led by the hardest working public servants in the region.”
