So many roads and/or travel lanes are closed this weekend for construction projects, you may just want to stay home. But if you are out and about, please take special note of these closures:
Interstate 5 from Brooks to Woodburn will see long delays beginning 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19 as the Oregon Department of Transportation will begin paving work on the 12-mile stretch of freeway. The northbound lanes will be the first for resurfacing and paving. Work begins as early as 7 p.m. week nights and will continue as late as 9 a.m. the following morning. This will cause significant delays for northbound commuters. Paving will be suspended on the weekends. The project is expected to be completed by October.
Two lanes of the Hawthorne Bridge will be closed 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 17-18 for the required biennial structural inspections. One lane will be open in each direction at all times. The bike/pedestrian paths will be open on both sides of the bridge.
Southwest Boones Ferry Road in Tualatin will close for the weekend beginning 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, for work on the railway crossing. Tualatin-Sherwood Road will be closed from Southwest Boones Ferry Road to Avery Street with detours in place. The closure is all hours and days through 5 a.m. Monday, May 20. Drivers should expect long delays, plan alternate routes, or forgo travel in the area this weekend.
LLOYD CENTER 7:48 a.m.: Injury crash with several units responding to Northeast Multnomah Street and 13th Avenue near Lloyd Center.
NORTH PORTLAND 7:30 a.m.: Crash reported at North Killingsworth Street and Interstate Avenue.
WEST LINN 7:02 a.m.: Crash on I-205 southbound south of West Linn is causing slowing back to Oregon City. Crash is in the median.
Singer Hill Road and 10th Street in Oregon City will close 7 a.m. Friday, May 17 and be closed all hours and days through 5 p.m. Monday, May 20. The closure is for all vehicles and a detour will be posted. During the closed times, Union Pacific will be working on railroad repairs.
Singer Hill Road will reopen later on Monday, but work will continue, and flaggers will be in place for night work 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, through Thursday, May 23. The road will be open to traffic but alternate routes are encouraged.
Interstate 405 will have the ramp from I-405 north to I-5 south and the ramp from North Greeley Avenue to I-5 south closed 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, through 10 a.m. Monday, May 20.
Last weekend’s closure didn’t last until 10 a.m. on the following Monday, but travelers should be prepared for both of those ramps to be unavailable for the Monday morning commute. Signs will direct travelers to detour routes. Those who use Greeley to connect with I-5 southbound should will want to use North Going Street to access I-5 during the closure.
