Strong high pressure and warm temperatures move into the Pacific Northwest beginning Wednesday and continuing until Friday night.
The National Weather Service says highs will warm significantly, with mid-80s likely through Thursday, and temps possibly reaching toward 90 by Friday.
Wednesday will be a sunny day with light winds and a high temperature near 83. Winds could pick up later in the afternoon and evening as the high pressure intensifies over the Pacific.
And the heat increases as the week goes on. Thursday will be sunny with temps climbing to near 87 degrees.
Some forecasting models are looking at the possibility of high temperatures reaching 90 Friday. The official forecast for the Portland Airport calls for 86, but some locations in the metro area could be warmer.
Big changes start Friday night as an active and wet system moves in for the weekend. There’s a slight chance for showers Friday night. By Saturday morning, the metro area could see early thunderstorms and plenty of showers. Temps will cool back down to the low 70s for the weekend.
