According to police, “a large group of people” had gathered at the beach when the fight broke out. A gun was fired, and Fast Buffalo Horse was hit, officials said.

Police said the shooter and the crowd ran from the beach after the shooting. Officers responded to the incident around 9:25 p.m. and attempted to save Fast Buffalo Horse, but he died at the scene, police said.

Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Fast Buffalo Horse died from the gunshot wound.

An arrest was made during Wednesday night’s investigation for an unrelated warrant, officials said in Thursday’s press release. No arrests related to the shooting have been announced.

Police are asking witnesses and anyone with information to contact Homicide Detective Travis Law at (503-823-0395; travis.law@portlandoregon.gov) or Detective Vincent Cui at (503-823-0049; Vincent.cui@portlandoregon.gov.)
